Comart is a sponsor with Blackmagic Design video equipment in this year's program of the Athens - Epidaurus festival in the performance "Vampires", based on the play by Erik Ibsen, by the theater group blindspot theater group / Michalis Konstantatos - Iotas Argyropoulou
About the show
The blindspot theater group was founded in 2009 by the actress Iota Argyropoulou and the director Michalis Constantatos with the aim of creating shows that marry different arts – theater, visual arts, cinema, music, new technologies – with the ultimate goal of creating a new aesthetic language.
They have presented their works in Greece and abroad, while their performance One person at a time was chosen by Marina Abramović for the exhibition "As One" at the Benaki Museum. Michalis Constantatos as a film director won numerous international awards both for short films Two Times Now and Only for Ever, as well as for the feature length Luton, while the group's last performance, Hotel, stood out in the European competition of the important German festival Berliner Festspiele.
They introduced her Edda Gambler with great success at the House of Letters & Arts and were invited with their new work to the Ibsen Festival 2016 at the National Theater in Oslo.
In the show they are creating for this year's Athens Festival, Blindspot make a twist on the basic outcome of the Ypsene work. Through eerie images, the heroes are confronted with an unexpected condition, continuing the confrontation with their personal and social Vampires. The text is created with excerpts from the original and with new texts written specifically for the show.
Director's note
On the opening night of the Alving Foundation the main characters of the Vampires are there. All present to honor the establishment opened in honor of the late, great Captain Alving. The foundation-donation is ready and in a few hours it will be delivered to the city for its needs. Making a twist on the basic outcome of the story, we place the heroes in the future of the play, on the threshold of the institution, which functions as a symbol of personal and social fulfillment. Following the poetic sequence of the dream, the performance evolves through eerie images, watching the Ypsene heroes dive into the uncharted territory of the subconscious.
Through Ibsen's famous classic drama we create a meeting place between the already existing work and new original texts and images, which shed light on the unacknowledged side of the characters. The past of the heroes, their mental landscape and their relationships are illuminated through an unexpected and paradoxical condition. Keeping the main characters and their truth, the characters of the play – Manders, Alving, Oswald and Regine – come face to face with their Vampires' fears, desires, dreams, nightmares, personal and social. In this new condition will the heroes of the play be able to emerge into the light or will the darkness remain their inevitable destination?
With Greek and English subtitles
The performances will take place on 17, 18, 19/7, in the E area of Piraeus 260
