LaCie recently announced the first solid-state external storage solution with Thunderbolt 3, aimed primarily at creative professionals for video editing and editing in 4K and above resolutions. But also for those who work with demanding applications, large file sizes and need RAID storage with ultra-fast transfer and storage speeds.
The LaCie Bolt3 2 TB External SSD 2.8 GBps Thunderbolt 3 uses two M.2 SSDs in RAID 0 and offers blazing read speeds of up to 2800 MB/s and write speeds of up to 2200 MB/s. It can integrate hours of raw footage from RED or Blackmagic Cinema Camera in next to no time. With the Bolt3, you can convert 4K, 5K or 6K footage much faster using Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, and then transfer 1TB from the Bolt3 to a RAID – such as a LaCie 12big Thunderbolt 3 – in minutes instead of hours.
The LaCie Bolt3 external storage drive works at its best when connected to a computer with Thunderbolt 3 (TB3) connectivity and the included active Thunderbolt 3 cable. The LaCie Bolt3 also features an additional TB3 port so you can connect additional Thunderbolt 3 devices (storage devices or displays) and charge them (the Bolt3 comes with an external power supply).
Designed by Neil Poulton, the Bolt3 is made to dominate a desk surface with its unique style. It is made of black aluminum, with a blue LED on the back, and is supported at a 45-degree angle on its base which, using special magnets, holds it firmly in place but at the same time allows it to be easily removed and transported anywhere. It also features active cooling technology that ensures the long-term performance of the SSD drives.
The Bolt3 is the fastest external storage drive on the market and part of LaCie's Limited Edition series with an emphasis on functionality and design at a correspondingly high price. The device is expected in Greece in late 2016 with a price tag of around 2000€.
