Live streaming and tracking
The Fire Department of New York broadcasts live firefighting through the Mobile Viewpoint Streamur iPhone Application in the operations chamber.
The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) – the largest fire service in the United States – recently developed a live streaming platform to enhance better management of firefighting processes and decision-making. Mobile Viewpoint in collaboration with KenCast created this special platform at the request of the FDNY.
The platform streams video through the Mobile Viewpoint Streamur iPhone application to the end user's KenCast platform, using three iPhones – each paired with a cellular hotspot – to deliver live footage of events to users on any Android or iOS smartphone as well as Windows or Mac OS computers. The entire process is password protected and is used by the men and officers of the fire department to speed up extinguishing and better incident management.
Management and registration
In this way officers in the operations center as well as other agencies can monitor the incidents (in real time – 5 second delay) and make the necessary strategic decisions to support the firefighting. Once the fire is under control and the transmission is stopped, the FDNY can review the recorded video and use it accordingly for training, analysis and investigation.
The FDNY is currently expanding its existing Mobile Viewpoint/KenCast platform to include a connected drone that will provide live aerial video of the Department's firefighting efforts for better coverage.
The application is available from the Apple App Store or Google Play store or directly from http://webstreamur.com/streamur/ and can be downloaded online for free, but its use is based on license and username with password access.
The iPhone application is visible in Videomanager as an icon. There is a power indicator light and a preview of the transmission.
The above innovation of Mobile Viewpoint is suitable for a variety of public safety or live broadcast applications.
Mobile Viewpoint SkyLink
In addition MobileViewPoint has announced its new Sky Link product which is based on an action camera. SkyLink has two 4G modems and 1080p HD recording using an 8 megapixel CCD. SkyLink has been developed to be used in conjunction with unmanned aerial vehicles and drones as well as to record live sporting and other events. SkyLink can be placed under any unmanned aircraft or drone using classic mounts and uses the modems in bonded mode to send live footage instantly.
