Anamorphic DV format clips intended to be viewed in 16:9 (widescreen) aspect ratio may be displayed in 4:3 (fullscreen SD) aspect ratio if you use Send to Motion Project in Final Cut Pro. More specifically, this can happen if you send a DV clip to Motion from Final Cut Pro's Browser.

Solution

If this problem occurs with DV clips sent directly from the Browser, you can resolve this behavior by following these steps in Final Cut Pro:

  1. Add the clip to a Sequence.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Select the clip from within the Sequence to simply send the clip
      the
    • Select the sequence in the Browser to send all found clips
      within the sequence.
  3. Select File > Send To > Motion Project.
