Sonnet Echo III Desktop: A Three-Card Thunderbolt 3 Box
Sonnet introduced one of the first Thunderbolt 3 expansion enclosures that supports up to three full height PCIe 3.0 expansion slots. The three-port Echo III is designed for professionals from different spaces, so it can host a graphics card, a high-end SSD, an accelerator for audio or video, or a 10GbE network card.
For demanding professionals
Modern laptops and all-in-ones can provide general-purpose CPU power sufficient not only for productivity and recreational tasks, but also for professional applications. What they don't offer are expansion slots for cards required for professional workloads. But they have Thunderbolt 3 ports and can therefore work with external expansion boxes. The vast majority of these types of frames are designed for one or two cards which may be good enough for gamers but may not be sufficient for professionals creating digital content such as video, 3D etc.
3 full height sockets
Sonnet's Echo III Desktop chassis can accommodate up to three full-height (FHFL) add-in cards that consume no more than 400W combined. The box has one PCIe 3.0 x16 mechanical slot (x8 electrical), one x8 mechanical slot (x8 electrical) and one x8 mechanical slot (x4 electrical).
Characteristics
To ensure that the cards work at a stable performance and do not overheat, the chassis is equipped with two Noctua NF-R8 redux-1800 fans that produce noise up to 17.1 dbA. The box has two Thunderbolt 3 ports, one for input and an additional one for daisy-chaining an additional TB3 device or display.
