Vizrt & Eurovision 2019
The Eurovision Song Contest is the largest and most popular live entertainment television program in Europe, attracting nearly 200 million viewers worldwide.
Vizrt, the leading provider of visual storytelling tools for media content creators, provided the know-how and tools to broadcast the results of the world’s largest singing competition to millions of viewers, with graphics created by Segev Sport, Vizrt’s partner in Israel.
Graphics & real time voting
The Eurovision Song Contest graphics were powered by five Viz Engines that included lower grade graphics and a scoreboard that was updated live from Tel Aviv, Israel – the site of this year’s event. As viewers voted for their favorite singers, Eurovision crews used GPI triggering to change the results on screen as they were introduced.
Complex production
At the competition venue, the Segev Sport team worked with the Eurovision team to synchronize the graphics with the stage and lighting. They developed three different applications that connected to a secure real-time voting platform, supplied by Digame. A custom application platform developed by Segev Sport connected directly to Digame’s servers, allowing the production crew to retrieve voting results in real time and also providing a fallback in the event of a server failure.
“This was one of the most challenging productions ever done in Israel. The end result was amazing and Vizrt’s tools allowed the voting and graphics systems to work flawlessly,” said Nir Waidman, COO of Segev Sport.
